Strong Leap is a short, typical 2D platformer I developed while writing my master's thesis. It is not a full game but rather a tech demo to showcase what accessibility features you could add to a 2D platformer game. It is supposed to be inspirational so if you see anything you like, feel free to implement it in your game as well!
There might be bugs that I have overseen.
Accessibility Option Overview
User Interface
- Language Support: English, German
- Resizable Game Window (only in the downloadable version)
- Two interchangable fonts, a pixel art one and Open Dyslexic
- Large font size setting
- Changable text color
- A HUD placement tool that allows you to place the health bar where you need it
Difficulty
- Adjustable maximum healthand invincibility
- Adjustable recharge time for the high jump
- Adjustable game speed
- You can map a button that allows you to place a custom checkpoint in safe areas
- A training room that functions as a tutorial and allows you to practice the mechanics before attempting the level
Controls
- Alternative movement schemes that allow playing the game without the need to hold a button down (see "toggle mode" in the controls table)
- An option to always jump at maximum jump height
- Controller rumble intensity can be adjusted
- Fully remappable controls (gameplay and menu separately)
- An action guide that shows you the controls
Visual
- Adjustable brightness
- Adjustable contrast
- Separate toggles for visual effects (chromatic aberration, particles, freeze frames and distortion effects)
Cognitive
- "Simple Mode" turns off any unnecessary visual information
- Selectable accent color to adjust simple mode and color codings
- Background scrolling can be turned off or the background can be disabled entirely
- Toggleable epilepsy warning at the beginning of the game
- Camera shake intensity can be adjusted
- Toggleable navigation paths that show you where to go and what to do
Audio
- Stereo/mono audio setting
- Separate volume controls for music, sound effects and master volume
